The Spain international got his season off to a flyer with two goals against Barcelona and is regarded as one of European football’s top prospects.
He’s seen his game time limited ever since those Spanish Super Cup fixtures though and has only recently replaced Isco as Zinedine Zidane’s go-to from the bench.
Asensio has been tipped to leave Real in the summer in order to ensure his fledgling career does not stagnate.
The latest reports from Spain suggest Florentino Perez is reluctant to let him go but may relent in order to bolster Real’s struggling squad.
According to Don Balon, Perez believes Asensio is a very important asset going forwards.
And he’d therefore only let him leave if a Galactico was to come in in his place.
Don Balon indicate that means Perez is considering offering him up for a swap deal.
The Real president’s first choice would be to trade Asensio with United for David De Gea.
If De Gea is unattainable, Perez will apparently turn his attention to Tottenham hitman Harry Kane.
Tottenham may prove reluctant to let go of their hotshot as they prepare to move into a new ground though.
And Real might have to go knocking at their London rivals Chelsea for Eden Hazard.
Don Balon suggest Perez could have luck at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues showing interest in Asensio previously.
