Eden Hazard’s father, Thierry Hazard, sensationally claimed yesterday that his son has already rejected terms on a deal at Stamford Bridge as he holds out for a bid from Real Madrid.
The Bernabeu outfit have had a long-standing interest in Hazard with both Florentino Perez and Zinedine Zidane keen admirers of the tricky winger.
The Belgium international admitted last month that it “would be a dream” to play under Zidane, adding to speculation he wants to join the La Liga giants.
But Chelsea remain confident they will be able to keep hold of their man, who’s current deal runs out in 2020.
That’s according to The Guardian, who dispute Thierry Hazard’s claims that his son has already rejected a new deal because no formal offer has been made.
It is reported Chelsea have been in constant talks with the player over a new contract and will set their new terms swiftly after the New Year.
Antonio Conte sent a stark warning to Chelsea yesterday by stating his hope the club will prove their ambition by doing what they can to keep hold of Hazard.
“If you are in a great club and you trust the ambition of the club, it’s right to stay,” Conte said.
“We are talking about two important players for us [Hazard and Courtois] and, for sure, it is important to continue with this type of player, especially if your ambition is to try and compete for something important.
“It’s very important to try to improve your team, to strengthen your team, and not to sell the best players.
“But these are private conversations between the player and the club.”
