Messi and Neymar forged a good relationship with each other on and off the pitch in Barcelona prior to the latter’s £200million move to PSG in August.
Reports have claimed the duo still touch base with each other and have been discussing both teams’ chances of winning the Champions League.
But Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim Barcelona‘s Messi has decided not to become obsessed with stopping Neymar’s PSG from scooping the prize.
And that’s because he feels Manchester City, under Pep Guardiola, may win the trophy instead.
City have been in sensational form this season.
They currently sit 16 points clear of fierce rivals Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table.
And they boosted their chances of Champions League glory last night by thumping Basel.
City put their Swiss opponents to the sword with Ilkay Gundogan’s brace helping them to a 4-0 win.
And Diario Gol say Messi fears City may be too good for both Barcelona and PSG this season.
The 30-year-old reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to Sergio Aguero after the game.
Aguero scored as City ran riot, with his circling effort his 29th of the season.
There, Messi reportedly tipped Aguero to beat both himself and Neymar to the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.
Neymar left Barcelona to improve his chances of winning the golden gong.
Yet Messi thinks Aguero may be in line for the honour if City continue to dominate both domestic and European football.
