And Higginbotham believes Sanchez is a Jose Mourinho-style player and will add to the side.
“He’s a Manchester United player,” he said on Sky Sports.
“He’s that match-winner. I’m not comparing him to Eric Cantona but he’s one of them that can turn possibly a drab 0-0 into a 1-0.
“The one thing you do see with Mourinho is that he’s not just happy with players that want to run one way.
“And you’ve seen with Sanchez that he can do both ways. We’ve seen how Lukaku does his shift, Rashford, Martial, that could probably be the question mark over Mkhitaryan.”
The deal to take Sanchez to Old Trafford is expected to be complete this week and could include Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way.
Mkhitaryan is now in talks with Arsenal over being part of the deal – but he is likely to demand a pay-off from United with over two years left on his contract.
And it has emerged that he could become a hate figure in Manchester if he ruins the deal for Sanchez to join United.
“If the Sanchez deals falls through because of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, he will be a hate figure at Old Trafford,” a source told the Daily Star.
“He’s not too popular to begin with considering how he’s struggled to impress, but United will be a pretty ugly place for him if he causes the Sanchez transfer to fail.”
